Com a bonita idade de 101 anos, o poeta Lawrence Ferlinghetti partiu para as "Sky Lights". Fundou a livraria e editora exclusivamente de poesia City Lights. Deu-nos a conhecer a obra de Allen  Ginsberg e de Charles Bukowski, entre outros.

... this little man with the fishy eye

 took Monsieur Eiffel's famous 

                                          [elevator 

to go up and down and down and 

                                          [up 

but he pressed the wrong button

 (as is recorded in the annals of the

                                       [City) 

and went the wrong way 

and went down and down instead 

                                      [up and up

 and down and down and down 

straight into Signore Dante's Hell

 and was never heard from again

 and never seen again

 this little man with the big fishy eye 

       [disappeared for ever and ever 

although there is still a strange

 smell of dead fish 

on certain days ...
